Silos-type pneumatic conveying pump (often referred to as silo pump) is a dense-phase positive-pressure pneumatic conveying device that integrates the pneumatic differential pressure principle, jet technology and fluidization technology. It is the mainstream special equipment for conveying powdery materials in the industrial field at present, and is especially suitable for short and long-distance conveying of fly ash.
Core Structural Components
The system of the silos-type pneumatic conveying pump mainly consists of feeding device, exhaust device, fluidization device, pneumatic discharge valve, pump body, electric control cabinet, pneumatic control box and other components:
Pump body: A pressure vessel for material storage. It needs to feature wear resistance and fatigue resistance, and can withstand certain pressure and temperature.
Feeding device: Installed on the upper part of the silo pump. A cylinder drives the flap to rotate 90 degrees to control opening and closing. The sealing ring is mostly made of fluororubber, with high temperature resistance and self-cleaning design.
Fluidization device: Located at the bottom of the pump body, composed of a fluidizing disc and fluidizing cloth (or fluidizing plate). Its core function is to allow compressed air to pass evenly so that materials are fully fluidized for easy conveying.
Control system: Generally adopts a PLC programmable logic controller. It supports automatic and manual control modes, dynamic display of operating status and fault alarm, with a high degree of automation.
Working Process
The silos-type pneumatic conveying pump operates in an intermittent fully automatic cycle. Each conveying cycle is divided into four stages:
Feeding stage: The feeding valve and exhaust valve are open, while the air inlet valve and discharge valve are closed. Materials fall into the pump by gravity. When the level gauge detects that the material reaches the set height, the feeding valve and exhaust valve are automatically closed.
Pressurization and fluidization stage: The air inlet valve opens, and compressed air enters the silo pump through the bottom fluidizing disc to fully fluidize the materials. After the pressure inside the pump rises to the set value, the discharge valve opens automatically.
Conveying stage: The air inlet valve and discharge valve remain open. Fluidized materials enter the conveying pipeline under the action of air pressure difference until all materials inside the pump are conveyed and the internal pressure drops to the set lower limit, marking the end of conveying.
Purging stage: The secondary purging valve opens, and compressed air cleans residual materials in the silo pump and pipeline. After the set time elapses, all valves reset and the feeding valve opens again to prepare for the next cycle.
Main Technical Features
Low energy consumption and high energy efficiency: The fluidization structure has been optimized many times to achieve favorable material fluidization. Its air consumption is significantly lower than similar products with a higher material-to-air ratio. For an equivalent distance within 500 meters, the material-to-air ratio can reach more than 30 kg (ash)/kg (air).
Low wear and long service life: Thanks to low air consumption and high material-to-air ratio, materials move in a partial flow state inside the pipeline at a low conveying velocity, which reduces wear on valves and pipelines and extends the service life of wearing parts.
Flexible adjustability: It is equipped with multiple adjustment methods such as primary and secondary air intake adjustment. Parameters can be adjusted according to material properties and conveying distance to keep the system running optimally at all times.
Eco-friendly with no pollution: Materials are conveyed in fully enclosed pipelines without dust leakage. The conveying process is unaffected by natural conditions and can also keep materials from getting damp, realizing safe and environment-friendly operation.
Main Classifications and Applicable Scenarios
Based on structure and discharge mode, it is mainly divided into the following types to meet different working conditions:
Type | Core Features | Main Applicable Scenarios
---- | ---- | ----
Top-discharge silo pump | Discharge port on the upper part of the pump body, simple structure | Medium and small output, medium and short-distance conveying
Bottom-discharge silo pump | Discharge port at the bottom of the pump body, multi-channel air intake design | Large output, long-distance conveying, suitable for high-concentration materials
Gasification jet silo pump | Combines jet technology and fluidization technology | Ash removal in thermal power plants, building material transfer, large construction sites
Fluidized silo pump | Optimized fluidization structure for better material mixing effect | Viscous and easily agglomerated powdery materials
This equipment is now widely used in many fields such as fly ash conveying in power plants, cement/cement raw meal conveying, metallurgical mineral powder conveying and chemical raw material conveying. It is a highly cost-effective solution for long-distance conveying of powdery materials.
